About LibreOffice Writer

LibreOffice Writer is a word processor and publishing tool similar to Microsoft Office Word and Corel WordPerfect. Writer easily reads Microsoft Word documents (.docx, .doc), and you can also save your work in Microsoft Word format.

Text frames and linking give you the power to tackle desktop publishing tasks for newsletters, flyers and much more, with layouts just like you want them to be. Writing documents online is easy now. LibreOffice Writer can display multiple pages while you are editing - ideal for complex documents. Perfect editor that requires no download!

Key features:

  • Templates and styles
  • A spelling and grammar checker
  • Word and character count
  • Page-layout methods, including frames, columns, and tables
  • Embedding or linking of graphics, spreadsheets, and other objects
  • Built-in drawing tools
  • Master documents — to group a collection of documents into a single document
  • Change tracking during revisions
  • The ability to import and edit PDF files.
  • Database integration, including a bibliography database
  • Indexing
  • AutoCorrect and AutoComplete
  • Saving files to the cloud

You can use Libre Writer online on rollApp from your desktop computer, laptop or mobile device. You can even get it for your Chromebook from Chrome Webstore. The app is integrated with Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive and Box for you to edit and save your documents.

The real Libreoffice is great. The Rollapp version keeps breaking. This is the second time I've lost my work.

So far , five stars! Chromebook operates right out of the box. And libreoffice opens in seconds. A big step away from the windows monopoly and the condescending arrogance of the Big Red One. . .

This is a truly innovative application, and powered by its community. Don’t bother with ApacheOpenOffice, the LibreOffice project is much more than the fork it initially was.

This is nothing more than a proxy, you'd be better off downloading the suite to your computer and saving to the cloud. Too many issue still to be worked out, nice idea but....

This is a real answer to MSO365 and beyond! With appropriate broadwith it works fine. As a consultant for migration to LibO or AOO this gives me new answers to critical questions:" ... and what about browser office?" See this!

Very solid program, generally runs well on ipad. Glitch occurs quite often: upon closing the virtual keyboard, half of the application's screen blacks out and becomes unusable. Especially prevalent when using split-screen keyboard. Otherwise, well-working, if not a tad slow. EDIT: Bluetooth keyboard now shows no issues, kudos rollApp team!

LibreOffice is a wonderful suite of applications. Unfortunately LibreOffice on rollApp is too slow (even on my Ivy Bridge Core i5 home machine or my Ivy Bridge Core i7 office machine) to be useful. Fix the performance issues, and I might just start using it all the time. (I know LibreOffice is working on a better cloud solution, and I can only assume they're working on making it more touch screen/tablet friendly as well.) Also I would want this to work with local storage as well.

This works for the documents I need it too like word documents with locked form fields. Areas even MS Office 365 online won't do. I would gibe this 4 starts if it was faster/more responsive. Even on a very good work network with Windows 7 Pro & Chrome Browswer it's sluggish. On less than optimal wifi with my Chromebook (C720P) the program runs so slow I can't hardly use it. This is a shame because not being able to do specific work documents on my Chromebook which Libre can do is the only thing making my Ch

Good idea but... on I-Pad + Chrome the UI needs work - keypad obscures text line being entered; Chrome detected as safari and flags popup incorrectly; latency is significant issue ; using Google Drive storage via UI seems unresponsive at times; Does not offer "open with" at Google UI for ODF etc.

This would be really awesome if i could copy and past to other places outside of this app like my email. In order to achieve that I had to download the app and open it in word viewer just to simply copy and paste and the clipboard manger doesn't help if i can only copy and past in just he app. I hope this will be fixed soon. But as for the formatting my documents its perfect just like using word

Since this website will only let me post one comment of short length, I must say that I am very impressed with their software as opposed to the hefty prices from Microsoft that offer little difference. Haven't tried this out yet but I will soon and anticipate great things. Keep up the good work!!
